5G technology is going to make a grandiose debut at 2018 Winter Olympics to be held at Pyeongchang, South Korea and whole world will be able witness the demo of blazing fast 5G network speeds which will be available to everyone by the year 2020.
ITU (International Telecommunication Union) has set the standards for Fifth Generation (5G), which has been specified as 20 times faster than Fourth Generation (4G), that is 20 Gigabits per second (Gbps). In real world, that would mean as 100 to 1000 Megabits per second (Mbps), which means 10 to 100 times as that of 4G. Advent of 5G will let you download UHD movies in just a few seconds. It will open doors for future technologies such as Holographic technology via mobile networks. According to officials, it will allow data transmission at the average speed of greater than 100 Mbps to over 1 million Internet of things devices (IoT) within a range of 1 square kilometer radius.
Official name of the 5G will be IMT-2020 which will be publicly announced in October 2015 at the ITU-R Radiocommunication Assembly where all delegates of 193 countries which are the members of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will approve all the standards and specifications for the 5G network or we can say 5G network will be officially standardized all over the globe.
Telecom giant Ericsson has also teamed up with Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa for doing research on the 5G Technology in which more than 100 researchers will pool their resources for developing various components, subsystems prototypes that will principle for photonic technology. South Korea is leading from the front in development of 5G technologies.
International spectrum distribution for the 5G network will begin in the year 2019 and will be all ready for user by the year 2020. So you have to wait a long span of 5 years as to get your hands on 5G technology. But considering the lightning fast speed 5G network, time span that we are supposed to wait maybe worth waiting.
