After Porn, is Indian Government Banning Torrents?

[alert type=red ]Congratulation India, you have chosen wisely![/alert]

When a government takes charge, it has to look forward to all the common public issues like poverty, electricity, road, water, education, Dollar-Rupee facade, etc. But our government really took a modern and smart step of cleaning the Internet first, I mean out of all the catastrophic events currently occurring in India, banning everything we like the most holds the most importance.

XVIDEOS quoted this:

See, your government must really suck when a porn site makes a statement like this. Banning porn wasn’t enough, the Department of Telecommunications on the gunpoint of Government of India is back at pretending how it is bringing change to the Indian society by banning torrents. After banning porn, torrents and abandoning internet neutrality, I don’t know if it will make sense to anyone to have an internet connection. Ask yourself, do you really go to the internet to gain knowledge? After a few term papers and assignments, no one including most of the nerds would give an actual damn about Wikipedia and when that happens, where do we head to?

See I get it, torrents practise copyrights infringement and I know it would not be fair for the artists trying to gain revenue and royalty for their craft.

Famous indie director Anurag Kashyap quoted:

“I owe my career to torrents. When you ban the torrents and take out these sites that upload and you download from, it actually helps a Harry Potter or a big tent pole film, but it kills the small movies. Because people often see these smaller movies when a Geek friend recommends it to them. So those Geeks who are in front of their laptops have suddenly lost access to those movies, so they stop recommending. So the small film business is going to die out, you’ll only be attacked with Super Hero shit and the world is ending type of movies.”

Forget about Anurag Kashyap ask yourself, if torrents ever really did get wiped out, what would you do? For an obnoxious market like Indian film industry and Home Entertainment, soon movies will be sold on gold platters. DVDs and Blu-Ray disks cost about 500-5000 bucks; when a middle class guy like me sees a 500 bill in his pocket, he imagines all the ways he could party with those 500 bucks. Now when you use that money to buy disks, what are you left with? Are you really that rich to buy every movie, PC game, “Windows” that comes your way? Technically torrents have been fulfilling our wishes ever since they came; it might be illegal but it’s a guilty utility and pleasure.

So, government banning torrents is not just a ban, it’s a calamity. If this ban persists, the potential artists say directors, musician will grow up with absolutely zero IQ about their interests. It will reduce the outside exposure that we Indians have adapted from ground zero. See the dilemma here? We can’t protest because technically torrents are illegal, and our basic survival is torrents. What would you show off to your peers if you had nothing? Like I mentioned above, ban on torrents and introduction of Over the Top services is leading to something really miserable. So we are absolutely and entirely screwed and something sane must be done, or the nation will go haywire.
