The Funniest Websites Ever

[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hat’s life without a little fun? What is the point of living, if not to stay happy? Finally, what’s happiness, if not shared? It all started with this idea my friends; humour, comedy, mimickery and theatre, all these ways to spread happiness have been here since time unknown, adding a little spice to the life that is spent counting down the days until death. Laughter is unquestionably the purest form of expression. Laughter loosens you up, and loosens the mood of everyone else around you. It chisels away your uneven edges, and you immediately feel at peace.

These days, humour too has entered the internet phase. People want everything capsulized into a single screen frame. Nobody has the patience for hour-long stand-up comedy shows and funny short anecdotes. These changes are the cause of the emergence of memes and comedy sketches. Laughter is no longer a thing to wait for. It is delivered constantly to your News Feed. For making this world such a fun place, the pioneers of Internet Comedy deserve to be recognized.

So let us take a look at the Seven Funniest Websites Ever to exist on the Internet.

[alert type=red ]As there is no real measure of laughter, I am not, I repeat, not ranking any of the sites.[/alert]

[button color=”blue” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://www.collegehumor.com/”]CollegeHumor[/button]

Famous  for their iconic satirical comic strips and even more satirical short comedy sketches; CollegeHumor is more than just a collection of campus jokes. The theme for most of its original content is largely anti-pop-culture; ranging from an evaluation of how long one would survive in the universe of his/her favourite game, to a comparison of parties, friends and sex in movies and in IRL. The compiled content is incredibly geeky and well-researched; so it’s a fun and fandom site, both under a single domain.

[button color=”green” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://www.cracked.com/”]CRACKED[/button]

Associated with the famous American magazine “Cracked”, this website claims to be “the only humour website of America” till date. Weekly updated, with the wittiest and the craziest of content, it was founded in 2005; almost 47 years after the inception of the magazine. In terms of quality of content, there is indeed no match to this website. It is not an amalgamation of amatuer articles filled with personal opinions. It contains thoroughly researched and genuinely sourced material that is both funny and bizarre. What more can be said; it’s the way humour journalism was meant to be.

[button color=”grey” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://theoatmeal.com/”]The Oatmeal[/button]

Another well-known American name, The Oatmeal is a the best when it comes to satirical content. The best type of content is the well-illustrated original comics and caricatures accompanying the blog articles. The satire is all encompassing in nature; from technology to politicians, The Oatmeal delivers a sharp jab at the mass mentality with each of its posts. It’s not frequently updated, but the length of each comic is enough to turn your mood up for the entire day. It is simply the most humorous satirical content I have encountered on the Web. Check it out already.

[button color=”brown” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://www.theonion.com/”]The Onion[/button]

What is it with satirical websites and food items with their names starting with the letter ‘O’? Anyways, The Onion is a news satire organization. It had started out in 1988 as a weekly college print featuring mock articles that reported fantastical events. Now, it has completely switched over to digital media. The website is not even just an ePaper anymore, it features a complete media network coverage of made up events! The content is as hilarious as the premise. Most of the news articles report parodies of real world events, are crisp and written in a quite convincing manner, which lends an air of pseudo-authenticity to the website. It can definitely get you hooked.

[button color=”red” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://9gag.com/”]9gag[/button]

9gag is the most popular online platform for funny pictures (or memes) of the modern time. It is a pseudo-social network built around sharing and accessing humour content. Not just funny pics, 9gag features any and all forms of digital media that is uploaded on it by the users. As is the case with social media, the content is not moderated by any designated administrator; although the users are advised to follow a set of official rules called “The Nine Commandments of 9gag”. So all the stuff here is not exactly hilarious, but sometimes geeky, bizarre, admirable and thoughtful too. It’s my personal daily fix for laughter.

[button color=”blue” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://www.engrish.com/”]Engrish[/button]

I would call this website racist if it wasn’t so hilarious. Featuring user-uploaded English Blunders from around the globe, this website is an out-and-out laugh-ride, proving that incomplete knowledge is funnier than no knowledge. It’s just a wall of photos posted by people featuring hilarious misspells, fragmented phrasing and misused terms of the English Language, with the option to rate it. Not that impressive, but it has managed to accumulate a lot of fame over time, making it one of the funniest websites on the internet.

[button color=”green” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”follow” openin=”newwindow” url=”http://www.funnyordie.com/”]Funny or Die[/button]

Founded by iconic comedy artists Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, this website may look like a content-aggregation blog at first glance, but is infinitely funnier than any blog you’ve been to till now. It is a professional comedians’ portal, and features original star-studded content. It features many famous and accomplished Hollywood actors in many of its original videos, and has even won the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program; for Zach Galifianakis’ interview with President Barack Obama on “Between Two Ferns”. This is the classiest humor available.
