Is Jon Snow coming back?

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]s Jon Snow dead yet? Is his death temporary? Game of Thrones is a phenomenon now, the internet world is full of spoilers. Everyone out there has an idea of what is going to happen in the next Season (Thanks to the Books, and Google). As we know in Season 5, the show unfollowed the books. Many are dead already, which are very well alive in the Books.

So the question comes: Is Jon Snow coming back?

[alert type=red ]SPOILER ALERT![/alert]

Pretty nasty things happened in the finale of the 5th season of GoT; Cersei got humiliated, Arya lost her eyes, Stannis gets killed(?), and Jon Snow is stabbed “for the watch”. People have lost their minds after seeing the closing scene which shows Jon lying in a pool of blood after being stabbed by the brothers of the Night’s Watch (and that Olly mofo).

Though there are some serious speculations about what will happen next, there is one theory that stands out: R+L =J

[button color=”red” size=”big” alignment=”center” rel=”nofollow” openin=”samewindow” ]What does the theory say?[/button]

One mystery that has been haunting us from the first episode of Game of Thrones is the name of Jon Snow’s mother. We all know that Jon Snow is the bastard son of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and warden of the North. We are told that Jon was born after Eddard bedded another woman while at war and he has been raised by Lord Stark in Winterfell ever-since. Ned tells Robert Baratheon that the name of Jon’s mother is Wylla. He tells him that Wylla was a wet-nurse who seduced Ned one night and Jon Snow happened.

But we all know that Ned is a man of true honor. He even gets ready to sacrifice his life rather than name Joffrey the one true king. In season 5, even Stannis says that bedding a tavern whore isn’t Ned’s way. So, we can pretty much conclude that Jon Snow isn’t Ned’s son. I mean, come on. Ned Stark? Bedding a tavern wench? Really?

According to the theory, R+L = J, Jon snow is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Rhaegar + Lyanna = Jon. Lyanna Stark is Ned Stark’s sister. Rhaegar Targaryen, whose name you probably have never heard before, is the eldest brother of Danaerys Targaryen and is the heir of the Iron Throne.

Here is how the story goes: Rhaegar Targaryen kidnaps Lyanna and rapes her. Robert, who is already engaged to Lyanna starts a rebellion called Robert’s rebellion to bring her back. He wins the war and ends up killing Rhaegar Targaryen and becomes the king.

When RT was given a crown of blue roses and is asked to give it to whom he thinks is the most beautiful woman in the seven kingdoms, he gives it to Lyanna Stark instead of his wife, Elia Martell. He later kidnaps her and it is said that she is raped by RT. But, all along the show, Rhaegar is only praised and never insulted, even by Ned Stark, whom you would expect to hate RT after he raped Ned’s sister. So, what probably might have happened is that Rhaegar and Lyanna fell in love with each other, ran away and lived in “The tower of joy”.

When Ned rushes to the tower after RT’s death, he sees L lying in a bed of blood. The last words she utters are “Promise me, Ned. “ Now, a bed of blood could refer to childbirth, and the promise could be to keep Jon’s identity a secret, because if Robert finds out about the new boy, he’d kill the new Targaryen. This theory is further supported by Ned Stark’s soft side to Danaerys and Targaryens in general. That means that we are dealing with Jon Targaryen and not Jon Snow.

So, if Jon is a Targaryen, will he come back? We know that Lady Mellisandre is at Castle Black, and the Lord of light is known to resurrect the dead. So, Jon Snow might come back as Azor Ahai, the warrior that defeats the white walkers and sends them back to sleep. Let’s hope Jon Snow comes back alive and wins the Iron Throne.

Until then, let’s pray to the Lord of light. For the night is dark, and full of terrors.
