[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n the last couple of years, the World has witnessed some of the greatest security breaches in history. For instance, malevolent hacking attempts committed against Sony could cost them a hefty amount of around $100 million which could not be covered even by insurance, espionage activities of NSA exposed by Edward Snowden are well known to the whole world. To bring these kinds of hacks to termination, a brand new smartphone Blackphone 2 has been announced by the company Silent Circle founded by Phil Zimmerman, an internet security legend which fixates its attention in the field of security and manufacturing unhackable gadgets.

Blackphone 2 is the successor of Blackphone, which was also one of its kind when it came to the security concerns and was also heralded as NSA PROOF. It was launched at Mobile World Congress (MWC-2015) in Barcelona.

Firstly, taking a decent look at its hardware, it sports Full HD screen of 5.5 inch secured by Gorilla Glass 3; a faster 64-bit Qualcomm octa-core processor assisted by 3 GB RAM; removable battery of 3,060 mAh and an expandable storage via Micro SD card.

Now, coming to the software, it operates on PrivatOS 1.1, an Android-based operating system that will allow IT administrators to lock, manage and wipe gadgets as and when required. PrivatOS is a security minded variant of Google’s Android Operating System, and Blackphone 1 will get an update for version 1.1, most likely to come out next week.

The Blackphone 2 will be available in market by second half of the year. Company is hoping to place its product in the same price segment as its predecessor, which was worth $629 (which is equivalent to approximately £409 or AU$809). There isn’t any word on the place where this phone will be on sale, so for more news and the full review, stay tuned.

One more similar gadget is in the line up, the Blackphone+, a Tablet which will also be as secure as Blackphone 2.
