When we talk about e-email, the first thing that emerges in our mind is Gmail, and every other service of the same nature looks corny and outdated. Against e-mail emperors like Gmail and Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo had to take some desperate measures to attract masses that are blindly depended upon other products and be back in the game.
Seemingly, Yahoo is putting all the cards on the table by introducing a single idea, it’s planning on to kill password for good. [highlight ]An idea of ‘Login without a password’, meaning the user can login to their email account without having to remember hard to remember, yet easy to crack passwords.[/highlight] People also tend to use a single password for most of the internet services they use. This anticipated change could finally put an end to “Oops, I forgot my password” calamity. Many security agencies depict and claim that as of now passwords are the worst security measure. So the new refurbished idea holds a lot of promise.
[highlight ]The idea of this prospect is, whenever a user will attempt to login his email he will enter his username or ID and he will automatically get a prompt on his cell phone asking whether he would like to login or not, all you gotta do is hit ‘yes’ and it’s done.[/highlight] In simple terms, your phone will be used to test your identity, but here’s a catch: the user must have a smart phone for this feature. [highlight ]Although this feature is revolutionary, it could still find its way to deception and thievery, say what if someone grabbed your phone?[/highlight] Every product has some perks and defects, even for an idea as promising as this.
This prospect isn’t the first time yahoo tried to expend passwords; it also came up with a feature known as ‘On Demand Passwords‘. [highlight ]It’s a ‘two factor authentication system’, in which first the user has to enter his own password and then the company will send another temporary password to finally access the mail[/highlight], but seldom users implemented this feature in their accounts. So, now Yahoo is trying to bring their idea into motion, by expending On Demand Passwords with the above mentioned feature known as “Account Key“.
